Scott "popcorn": I gotta go to work. Give it some thought. I have noticed that I get the "last visit 12:11 pm Monday " when I post something, otherwise that part does not appear if I just hit post/refresh.

Scott "popcorn": No, as far as I know I changed nothing. Every once in awhile it says that I last visited yesterday at 12:11 pm. I prefer the posts since I last visited option so it keeps going back to there. I've tried to reset users preference but no luck so far.

JohnO: I've got a DVDO I use to set up projectors. I don't like it on video, but it looks great on DVD. It does a better job on DVD than the 3000 as far as sharpness and artifacts go. Why don't you give me a buzz? I'm at work now.

What's the latest and greatest in Satellite receivers? Mine is about 3 years old, and I am leaving it with my old house when I move next week. I am using the move as an excuse to upgrade.
Does anyone have a HD receiver besides RCA (don't want the VGA connection)?

Guess what, since Sony is dragging there ass with there widescreen, I might
go the Pioneer Elite 710 if it will fit down my stairs. If not I will go

Tony C: Let me check tomorrow and I'll get you some details on the inwall subs at my dealer Brians. I was going from memory, and we all know that's not my best asset right now. I'll also check on some others for you and get prices. If you're interested, I can probably get you a good deal on them and no tax. I helped AKA get a pretty good deal on his Cary tube preamp through Brian. He's fair and takes good care of us.

BIG AL: After you've had a chance to look over that whole CCF, I'd sure appreciate knowing what you think of it... I revamped the graphics from the old version (found on Remotecentral) so it not only saves space, but allows multiple screen configurations rather than just the single "boring" screen... I'm thinking about revamping it again in the next few months, maybe making the buttons and curves solid black, with light lettering, and also making the curved sections (that join the horizontal and vertical lines) cabable of being buttons as well.
Scott "popcorn" ( 38.193.87.149 ) at 10:37 PM EST Monday, July 17, 2000

Digital Camera Question
cai: Well, it depends on many factors... first, when you think about even black and white graphics, you're talking grayscale, not just "on" or "off", so again, you won't get 1200 by 1200 out of a printer rated for that. (however for hard lines such as text or drawings, then you will get that resolution)... So, let's make the assumption that you will get 300 ppi (pixels per inch) out of that 1200 dpi printer (you might get more, you might get less)... Now, what size print do you want? if you think standard photos (3 by 5 inches) then you need a digital camera that is 3*300 by 5*300 which results in 900 by 1500, which is roughly 1.3 megapixels. If you prefer the "jumbo" prints that are 4 by 6 inches, then you need 4*300 by 6*300, which results in 2 megapixels. However, if you want to zoom your image up to an 8 by 10 and still take maximum advantage of our assumed printer resolution, then you would need a 6.9 megapixel camera.
To make a comparison to 35mm film, the 35mm frame is estimated to have a "grain" or resolution equivalent to about 18 megapixels (give or take a few megapixels) So, there you have the approximations you need to shop for a camera, as well as a reference for 35mm film.
In a side note, to print a picture using printer resolution capability if you were to make use of the full resolution of a 35mm film, your print would be roughly 14 by 16 inches. On the other hand, if you were to print it at professional print resolution, your printer would have to print 1,122 pixels per inch... Namely, if each dot your printer printed could be given 24 bit color instead of having to use several dots to make up a color, your printer could indeed print photo quality.

David: It is worth the work and effort to make it happen. A large image just makes the experience much more involving. $ for $ a FP has added more to my HT enjoyment and experience than any other purchase I have made. Joe: I'm using the PSB MX6x6.1 in-walls for my rears. I have silvers up front along with a C6 center. The in-walls sound great. I believe they use the same drivers that they use in the bronze speakers, but I'm not sure. Anyway, you would be happy with them if you decided that way. If you do decide to go with the PSB speakers, let me know. I have a friend who is a dealer and I think he would show you a good price.

Tony C: Sold any??!! In this hick town??!! I might as well be trying to sell a plasma TV! "Plasma??!! What, does that thang gots blood in it, er sumthin?"
I hooked one up in the store, and it worked great. It doesn't matter how many floors, or distance, as long as both units are on the same phone line. Since it's technically not wireless, there should be no interference either. The best part is since it's Rat Shack, you can return anytime up to 30 days for full refund. Just hang on to receipt, and all packaging, instructions, etc..

Every election scares me a little more than the one before. Most people seem to vote for the candidate they think is going to win, just so they can be on the winning side. Probably an offshoot of the sports fanatics in this country. I never understood that either though, after all, they're all just kids games. IMhO

PoP: The new bulb for the Dream Vision DLP projector will last for 4000 hours and can be purchased for $400. That is over two years of use based upon a heavy view watching the FP 5 hours a day. With 3 hours a day viewing the bulb would last for over 3 1/2 years.

ALL: Thanks for the info on the digital camera. Joe Let us get two thing straight:
1. You noted that "besides, all the money you have whats a few hundred more." Truth is that there is very little money left because of my wife... diamond ring, modifications to the house, wedding to pay for, honeymmon to pay for, etc. For what this is costing I could have purchased a 911 Turbo.
2. I just want something functional without over paying.

Scott "popcorn": You are correct. I think in colour the number is closer to 300 dpi. With that said, what would be the camera resolution value comparable to a 1200 x 1200 printer resolution? Scott "popcorn" ( 38.193.87.149 ) at 6:46 PM EST Monday, July 17, 2000
Digital Camera Question
cai: Printers don't work that way... 1200 dpi means that the printer can print 1200 dots per inch. 1200 by 1200 means 1200 dots per inch in each direction, not for the whole page... Then you have to take into account that the printer has to use several dots for each color pixel (depending on what color it is)... which means you can't print at 1200 by 1200 dots per inch in color... All of this factors in, and the gist of it is that printers just can't print as good as digital cameras can take pictures...

Michael AKA "the Home Theater/Home Building Animal": Hey bud. Lots of stuff going on. Saw Dido last week. Wonderful as ever.
While I was shopping for the M.A. Silver series, the dealers used the Studio 60s as M.A.s benchmark. they talked about them, showed me pictures, but never had them in the store. I'm sure is was a price thing.
But that's what I meant by The Hype.
cai ( 24.28.216.21 ) at 5:58 PM EST Monday, July 17, 2000
Digital Camera Question
JBC: One thing that I would do is find the correlation between pixel count and printer resolution. What would you gain in printing resolution if you buy a 1.1, a 2.2, or a 3.3 MM pixel camera when you are printing in a 1200 x 1200 printer. That is, the printer only prints 1,440,000 dots maximum and your camera has 3.3 MM dots to be printed. You possibly do not need a 1:1 correlation between pixels and dots, but since you investigat the DNA out of everything this is possibly a good area for you to look into and maybe save some money in the process. Also this will help you decide what for you want the camera. It is unlikely that you will be posting the huge files that a 3.3 MM pixel camera can give you. Something else, 6 pictures is not a real lot, you will need a lot of removable media to carry with you.
Michael AKA "the Home Theater/Home Building Animal" ( 129.239.3.55 ) at 5:57 PM EST Monday, July 17, 2000

Michael AKA "the Home Theater/Home Building Animal": I ate there once with my children. I had the impression that this was a children's place for birthdays and so forth. Digital Camera Question
JBC: The biggest problem I have with the 1.1 megapixel Olypmus cameras is that they don't offer a manual mode, they don't offer USB, and a lot of other useful features... Have you looked at the 2.2 megapixel models? cheaper, no USB, but nearly as many features at the 3.3...

Wild Bill: I agree that the background setup is very important. I am just a little impatient to get to the good action scenes.
KPD ( 207.180.0.8 ) at 4:40 PM EST Monday, July 17, 2000
JohnO: Trying the composite out will eliminate the sync separator circuit in the doubler and force the projector to do it. If the problem lies in that circuit, then you'll be back in business.
JohnO ( 140.183.114.30 ) at 4:31 PM EST Monday, July 17, 2000
KPD: No, haven't tried composite synch yet, will add that to the list.
JohnO ( 140.183.114.30 ) at 4:28 PM EST Monday, July 17, 2000
KPD: I am running both s-video and composite into the doubler, but only 5bnc out. The problem happens on both input sources, vcr and dvd. I will test (maybe with Wild Bill's help) to make sure the projector is OK, but I think it is fine.

Michael AKA "the Home Theater/Home Building Animal": I understand your viewpoint on X-Men as someone who is familiar with the series but I think kudos should go to the team for taking the time to develop the movie for the uninformed. If they want it to be a blockbuster series (which I think it can be) the setup was necessary.
Just getting the RainForest Cafe out there, huh? It's been in our area for many yeras. It can be an interesting dining experience although I think the food is overpriced for what is offered. However, you can't beat the ambience.
KPD ( 207.180.0.8 ) at 4:22 PM EST Monday, July 17, 2000
JohnO: Since the 3000 has NEC proprietary IC's in it, they don't supply a full service manual for it. They only recommend changing out entire boards or returning it for a refurb. Since you are only having problems with the sync, it may only be the section that generates the sync pulse, it could even be a bad connection or cold solder joint that is suppressing the sync level, making it hard to detect by the projector. Have you tried both composite and separate sync outputs?

Ron H : Is the new room only for HT or is it also for music listening? In other words, how important is music listening in the new room? If very important, then hiding the speakers will not give you the full potential of the speaker. I think of it like putting a sheet over a fine painting.

KPD: I think my NEC 3000 line doubler is starting to fail. The Sony projector says the frequency keeps moving and is having trouble synching. This happens at the same time as the NTSC light on the 3000 goes out.
My 2 questions are: Is the 3000 fixable? Don't think so but want to ask.
What else is available for a reasonable price? (loaded question, I know)

Digital Camera Question
JBC: Take a look at the Casio QV-3000EX digital camera. I own this camera. It is a 3.3 Mega Pixel camera that comes with the IBM 340 MB micro-drive. You can fit 245 3.3 Mega Pixel pictures (at the highest resolution) on the 340 MB micro drive. I also have a 1200x1200 dpi printer and when I print out the images taken wih the camera, I can not tell them a part from ones that I have taken with a SLR camera. The only ral difference is that the 4x6" professional photo paper is a little glossier feeling/looking then the photo printer paper.
Ron H ( 207.221.158.187 ) at 4:02 PM EST Monday, July 17, 2000
As I progress with this ongoing Home theate project I am already looking forward to phase 2. Some of the items for that part will be remote curtains over the screen, a small stage in front of the screen, remote lights and some work with acoustics.
I have observed that most of the home theaters speakers are invisible as in a true theater. I could build the sub and center into the stage area, I do not want to use a peferated screen and the tripoles could be built into collums.
My problem is the right and left speakers. They are Martin Logan SL3's and in effect are in a true sense dipole speakers. The radiate front and rear. I know of no way to put them in any type of enclosure, no matter what the size and have them work.
I am afraid if I want to go with the no speaker look I may have to go with a conventional type speaker. I am afraid to suggest to the wife I lso need a music room for the MLs so that is not a option. Two Home theater set ups is her unspoken limit.
I really do love the sound of the MLs.
Any thoughts
Michael AKA "the Home Theater/Home Building Animal" ( 129.239.3.55 ) at 4:00 PM EST Monday, July 17, 2000
Good afternoon all!
I went to see the X-Men yesterday evening. I thought the plot and the background setup was good. I say it in Dolby Digital and thought that the sound effects could have been better but overall an enjoyable film. My biggest problem is that since I was very similar with the X-Men through the comics, I thought it was a little slow because I already knew the background information. Anyhow, I thought it was worth seeing in the theater and will make a great release on DVD.
I saw one the most impressive restaurants this weekend, The Rainforest Cafe. That place has ambiance and then some. The theme is the rain forest and man then they do it well. The entire ceiling is done to look like a jungle with animatronics of monkeys, tigers and birds. The sound system they have installed in their was very impressive. I love it when it when through its storm sequence, very realistic sounding. There were also four huge round tropic fish tanks, one containing a very large live Moray Eel. Very cool to say the least.
Before I went to see the X-men I got the chance to hear Monitor Audios' top of the line speaker, the Studio 60. The system consisted of McIntosh 2 channel amp, McIntosh 2 channel preamp and Denon DVD-5000 DVD/CD player. What can I say but those speakers are the brightess sounding speakers I have ever heard. I have heard systems that have used McIntosh gear and I don't think the preamp/amp was a contributor to the brightness. I have never heard the Denon DVD-5000 before so I can't say whether that could have been a contributor to the brigthness or not. And the price tag for the speakers, how about $10K/pair. The Studio 60's lacked any sort of midrange warmth. I had the store play some Sarah Maclachlin and the midrange was ragged and edgy. I could only stand about 5 minutes of listening to those speakers before I had to get up and leave the room. I thought Legacy speakers were bright but those Studio 60's took it to another level all together. I had a headache for about 2 hours after that 5 minute demo session.
I also got the chance to see Runcos' 2 chip DLP projector. The colors were on the soft side, no where near as vibrant as CRT projectors that I have seen. There was a fair about of pixelation that could be seen. Moving objects seem to have a slight ghosting to them as if the projector was not fast enough to keep up with the speed of the moving image. At $16K I don't think I would be very satisfied with the image. I did get a great idea for my father in-laws' system though. The ceiling height for his basement is only about 7'. I guess mounting on the ceiling is doable but I am thinking that mounting the CRT FP on the floor would probably work better and I like the fact that if servicing is needed it would be easier to access on the floor. Besides the fan noise from the CRT FP is pretty noisey and mounting them in an encloser on the floor would quiet them down. I was not sure how to do the air flow and the store just cut a hole in the back of the cover and placed a small fan in the back. Even in a quiet room I could not hear the fan unless I place my hear next to the fan. The only problem with floor mounting is that someone who crossed the path of the projector would disturb the picture. Just like most things, this has its compromises as well.

Digital Camera Question
Very close to purchasing an Olympus digital camera. Here is the dilema -- the 1.1 million pixel unit allows approx 20 image per card whereas the 3.3 milliom pixel unit allows only 6 images per card. For purposes of practically I amleaning towards the 1.1 million pixel unit whereas for purposes of quality I am leaning towards the 3.3 million pixel unit.
That said, aare the 1.1 million pixel sufficient? WIll I regret getting the cheaper unit?

Rich: Please do me a favor if you get to P-town and see if the Everbreeze is still there. In 1972 it was managed by Jack and Ann Donahue for Jack's mother, Lucille. Jack and Ann's son, John, who was in high school at the time, also worked there. If the Donahue's are still involved with the restaurant, see if they remember Mitch and Ed, their dishwashers in 1972. I guarantee that they'll never forget us. BTW, when I was there, there was a house on Commercial which was very famous for having sculptures in the yard made from chrome car bumpers. It was also a rooming house. One of our waitresses was the neice of the owner of the house, Heaton Vorse. Heaton's mother, Mary Heaton Vorse, was a writer and a contemporary of Eugene O'Neill. When the Warren Beatty movie, "Reds" came out, Heaton Vorse was one of the talkers, if that's what they called them, who appeared on screen and narrated the point of view of those who knew the protagonist, John Reid, personally. Another resident of the house was this watress's stepfather, Joel O'Brien, who was a personality on, I think, the Hyannisport radio station. My buddy and I stayed at the White Horse rooming house which was owned and operated by a guy named Frank Schaeffer who was a very gifted photographer, but a hopeless drunk. The White Horse was also on Commercial.

X-Men movie
Cytotech: I agree that this could have been a litle longer. They did an excellent job of setting up the beginnings (well, close to the beginnings) of X-Men. This wasn't a comic book or animated series turned into a movie. It was a MOVIE unto itself (I hope that made sense). The effects that were used were outstanding and it was definitely not just an action movie. I went with a friend who knows the X-Men episodes and series very well and he was impressed. This could become a great series of movies if they can continue to cast well and further develop X-Men the movies. The actor who played Wolverine pulled it off well. He definitely has the Wolverine attitude. I'll buy the DVD.

I have been informed that I cannot have the back of my equipment protruding into the closet. I was considering a front wall with shelves on both ends. I could then have a perferated screen for the center speaker. I though 30", but did not want to cut that much off the 20' length.
I was considering a 30" door in my bedroom. It would open up behind the wall. The shelves would be built out a bit, with perhaps 18" for the center speaker. The mains I was going to set in the front of the screen.

Well, I saw this this afternoon, and I must say it was quite a surprise. Better than I thought it would be. I never followed the X-Men too much(with the exception of a couple of their comic books and the occasional animated series on Fox) but this was quite good. There wasn't TOO much action/special effects nonsense. There was actually a plot to it. But, I do feel it needed about 30 more minutes to fill out the plot a little more. All in all, quite good. They make cool switches now that will do pre-set macros when one code is sent. They're just under $100. Guess what? I can't make those work right either.

Rich: The interesting thing about the interview was that 4 or 5 different instances were brought up where Gore has clearly lied. This is being verified by 3 to 4 different people PER instance (some of whom are quite loyal to Clinton/Gore). Not only does Gore insist that he is the ONLY one telling the truth but when given the chance in the interview to come clean he still insists that everyone else is incorrect. I doubt that he'd know the truth even if it jumped up and bit him in the ass.

My wife wants a small TV in the kitchen too, and that sender is my plan. Although I can't figure out why she needs a TV in the kitchen. It only takes a couple minutes to nuke a frozen dinner.

Good morning all. Hope veryone is having a nice weekend. I am stuck working trying to "clean" my desk before the honeymoon.
WIldBill: I hear ya bud. I was watching this at the tennis club early this AM. Boy, Gore sure is one dull dude. The scary thing is that Bush might win because of that. SUrely he could have gotten some better media training.

I'm watching the Al Gore interview on Meet The Press. I don't think I have ever seen anyone talk for so long without saying a thing or making any commitment. If the interviewer tells him one more time that his pie charts and graphs need to wait I think he'll cry. If this moron gets elected I think I'll cash in and move to an island. This is, of course, JMHO and I am not attempting to impress my political views upon any of you.

I'm thinking about getting an Airboard keyboard. It works up to 23 feet and apparently the Pronto is easily able to learn its' IR commands. Well just looked at TVs today. I must say it seems like manufactuers have there heads up there ass. Everyone is still pushing 4:3 format, there was only a few Widescreen sets by a few manuafacuers being displayed. And I must say the best picture went to the Sony Direct View Widescreen. But at just under 5 grand they can kiss my (|).
I also looked at the new Sharp
vision XVDW-100, better then allot of DLP units for sale. The unit was around $8298, I was very impressed they where running it off the new HDTV
RCA Dish and I didn't see any pixelization anywhere, nor did the black looked to faded. But I heard the Sony LCD is just as good or better for less money if you can find them. Anyone know where I can get the new Sony LCD unit? Or a good price on this Sharp, thanks for the help and sorry for the double post, I had to correct a few things

Ron H: Go to www.x-10.com and see if they have any FREE stuff. Sure they'll spam the hell out of you afterwards, but you can UNSUBSCRIBE and get rid of those. I got a beginner kit(remote, transceiver(plugs into the wall and converts RF to X-10 signals), and a lamp module). Then I ordered a few other things and can do exactly what you want to do with MY sconces. I even downloaded the CCF for my Pronto from remotecentral.com and things worked beautifully! But smarthome.com has some x-10 outlets which look better(in wall) than the lamp and appliance modules(which plug into the wall(aka wall wart)). Do check them out. Also, you will need a model 4040 IR to x-10 convertor from smarthome(about 29.95). Just do a search for 4040 and it should appear. Good luck!

Southerners Warning To All Visiting Yankees
Don't order steak at Waffle House. They serve breakfast 24
hours a day, so let them cook something they know.
Don't laugh at Southern people's names. (Merleen, Bodie,
Luther, Ray, Tammy Ann, Maribeth, Inez, Billy Joe, Jim-Bob, etc.)
These people have been known to beat a man's ass for less.
Don't order a bottle of pop or a can of soda. This can lead
to a beating. Down South its called Coke. It don't make a
damn whether it is Pepsi, 7-Up or whatever else, it's a Coke.
Don't show allegiance to any college football team that isn't
in the SEC. (Florida, LSU, Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia, etc).
All the others are just a bunch of pansies that play teams
like Wyoming.
Don't refer to Southerners as a bunch of hillbillies. We
know our heritage. Most of us are more literate than you
(e.g., Welty, Williams, Faulkner). We are also better
educated and generally lots nicer. We have plenty of business
sense (e.g., Fred Smith of FedEx, Turner Broadcasting, MCI
Worldcom, MTV, Netscape). Naturally, we do sometimes have
a small lapse in judgment (e.g., Clinton, Fordice, Duke).
We don't care if you think we are dumb because we will
kick your ass.
We are fully aware of how high the humidity is, so shut the
hell up, spend your money, and get the hell out of here.
Don't order wheat toast at Cracker Barrel. Everyone will
instantly know that you're from Ohio. Eat your biscuits
like God intended and don't put sugar on your grits.
Don't fake a Southern accent. This will incite a riot.
Don't talk about how much better things are at home because
we don't give a damn. If you don't like it here, take your
ass home.
We don't play lacrosse, hockey, or any of those other
sissy Northern games, so don't come down here asking the
score because we don't give a damn.
We know how to speak proper English. We talk this way
because we want to and because we can. We don't care if you
don't understand what we are saying. All other Southerners
do understand what we are saying and that's all that matters.
Now, go home.
Last but not least. DO NOT come down here trying to tell
us how to Bar-B-Q. This will get your ass shot. You're lucky
we let you come down here. Question our Bar-B-Q and go home
in a pine box.
'Nuff said.

Gar: Yep, I hear ya. I listened to some 'demo rooms' in Atlanta over the past few days, and I am very impressed by what is possible with unlimited budgets... but I have a LIMITED budget. I have to say that the RX-V995 receiver has been good for me... it was my first purchase when I decided to get into the HT World. My tastes are simple compared to most of the audiophiles on this forum, but, I have to say that I have been pleased with this receiver.

David: I was very surprised, I will be doing some AB tomorrow, with my Sony and Hafler setup. I think I am going to use the K.I.S.S. terminology here, meaning Keep my HT system simple but good or do that with my Audio system, or both. Just don't have time to be picky with a newborn, and nor do I have the time to listen.
David ( 199.174.148.65 ) at 12:01 AM EST Saturday, July 15, 2000
Gar: I have had a Yamaha RX-V995 for about 18-20 months... almost since it was released. I have found it to be a great value for the money. I know that I can have much better sound with several other alternatives, but, the diminishing marginal return for the dollar is substantial. I agree that it has a good sound, and I like the way it matches with my Jamo speakers and Energy sub... Glad you agree.

Just call and get the measurements. Once built, it's light enough to carry yourself. See if it clears the stairs/ceiling and any turns you have to make.

Curtis: yeah. and like I said I did it myself. I put in the microfilters. I plugged the gateway into the phone line. then the power. it boots up. it made connection in short time. I did need to do the application set-up twice, I think the personal firewall hindered things. I turned it off and the set-up went without a hitch. This Gateway is its own computer. a power PC riunning @48Mhz. It has it's own memory. What this amounts to is a little LAN, it seems.

I needed to install 'Micro-filters' on the other outlets of the same number. these filter out anything above 20k Hz. I connected the gateway to my computer via ethernet. other options include USB and parallel(!) they sent phone wire, usb, cat-5, parallel to facilitate the connections. Pioneer Elite 710
Ok my Dealer is going to give me a killer Deal on his Demo unit. One problem is, it might not fit down the stairs! Doh!
Anyone besides Rich have any good, bad things to interject on this set? It seems Pioneer is the only one commited to making sure there sets are ready for whatever HDTV format comes down the pipeline. I hope this is true if I buy it.. Thanks for any input.

Michael AKA "the Home Theater/Home Building Animal": I totally agree.
Charles Angels, Again come on! I almost wanted to puke when I saw that Ad up on the screen. "Stop Freeze or I will shoot" hahahahha And Hollow Man looks like it had it scary moments and some sexy ones too
but I will pass and wait to rent that one.

RickMTB: When you compare them to what you just rattled off, I would agree the Yamaha would be bright. But So far I am so impressed with this Yamaha unit, it might stay in my main HT system for now, haven't decided that yet.m And as the Mirages are a good mate, so are my Dynaudio Audience series speakers.

Afternoon all,
Thanks for the bandwidth to rant the otherday. I cooled down amnd ma playing the game until I move on. Thanks for the comments.
Ron, on smarthome they have wall mountable DVD holders. I was just eading the catalog. A nice Pioneer 300 DVD player would hold them also
I am still looking at cable. I have a quote of $.39/ft from one of my vendors. It includes 2- Cat5 & 2-RG6 runs. On Saturday my wife has plans without me. I am off to see the local installer and get some quotes on the Audio distubution equipment. I am looking at the Russound stuff.
I also have to buy a new towwer. I have my antena on my roof and do not plan on reinstalling it up there. I might install the tower myself. The only thing that sucks is I can only place it on the south sde of the house. It is expoused when you drive up the hill.

Tony C: I did your post about FPTV. It can be more affordable than you think. You should chat with kpd. E-Mail me and I'll give you his numbers. He is a heck of a guy.
BTW, I have finally (I think) figured out how to do the DV thing to the the computer. I may be posting images of my HT in the near future. It probably won't be until after the first of August. I'm going on vacation that week and I am under a crunch for the next couple of weeks. I'm aiming for a stress free vacation.

Room Temperature
Wild Bill: Exact same thing for me. Always an afgan lying around the whole year. The difference is that I roll in a dehumidifier in the summer.
I keep the setting low and turn it off while watching a movie. I never installed a heating/cooling duct into the room because I didn't want the added noise from the forced air unit. While not in use, I keep the doors to the other rooms open to circulate air. Then close them when I watch a movie.
Hey Bill, did you see my post to Ron about the FP? Seeing it in his room really made me think of how doable it would be in mine. However, it won't for for about 4 years.

Gar: Gar... I agree that the Yammies sound good, especially compared to other mass market receivers (bright doesn't necessarily mean bad... just bright). Thats why I bought my 793. Compared to my old B&K stuff, or Rotel, Proton, or NAD receivers, Yammies are bright. The Mirages tend to tone them down a tad...

Ron H : That's the nice thing about having a HT in the basement. It is about 65 degrees in my HT year round. I have a couple of blankets that I keep around to keep legs warm (even in the summer). I'd much rather have a room that is slightly cool than one that overheats.

Birthday
Michael AKA "the Home Theater/Home Building Animal": Thanks. This is only phase one of a ongoing project. I plan on building a bar in the left rear corner, adding chair rail and cover the lower part with some accoustical material. I more than likely will also add some acoustic material on the front wall and posibly the ceiling.
I want to purchase a Movie theater type pop corn machine and I need some tables for drinks and etc.
A additional A/C vent needs to be added. When all the equipment is fired up the temp starts to rise after a hour or so. I have been compensating by dropping the setting for the rest of the house on the main thermosts. With 100 degree days I really do not need to cool the rext of the house 4 degrees cooler than we want or need it.
To all I need a rack that I can wall mount if possible to hold my DVDs. Any thoughts on where to purchase?

Birthday
Ron H: That room looks great. I bet it feels really good to be close to completing it and actually start using it.
johnbr: Thanks for the birthday wish. Concerning the next house, going to meet with a new architect this weekend. The 2 acre lot next to us is still vacant and my wife and I are either going to buy it and absorb it as part of our lot or purchase it, build a spec home and sell it. Houses in that area hold and appreciate very well. The money that we can make on the spec home would go towards building our house. Actually, I am kind of glad that my wife and I have held off on building the house because there are some new things that I want to incorporate into house that I would not have considered 6 months ago. Now looking at doing a GeoExchange (Geo Thermal) system. This alone can save us a lot of money on yearly heating and cooling costs.

I'm finding moving my house good therapy, though I can't imagine where I got so much stuff. Wild Bill: The Washington Times has a long article in today's edition talking about X-men, the movie. Since I have heard you talking about it, take a look at this article. I think it is very good. I had no idea what the X-men were until I read it. Patrick Stewart will play Professor X, and Famke Janssen, of Onatop fame with James Bond, will play a telekinetic person. The complete list of actor and actresses is given, but Ms. Janssen is enough for me to go and see the movie or rent it on DVD.

It's time to repaint mine. I'm thinking of a rag-roll thing, but keeping with the light grays. You and Wild Bill have me seriously thinking that the next upgrade will be FP. Whenever that is.
Two in college.
Hey, speaking of painting...you mentioned that the wall plates that are white will be painted black. Why paint them black? Why not the color of the wall if you paint them at all? And couldn't you find black wall plates if you didn't paint?

Tony C: The room colors are more grey than the pictures show but it does have a blue tint.
The wired grey remote is the remote control for the electric recliner for the center seat.
The black switch on the wall is to shut off the FP if I feel the need to. The projector even at idle/standby position has a fan running.
The speakers on the rear wall are M&K SW-85 In-Wall Speakers.
The Projector is a Dream Vision DLP projector. I have a Sony 16:9 HD ready coming for a demo . The Sony is very quiet. The Dream Vision can seem noisy. If I keep the gream vision I will build a hush box.
The ceiling is 8 feet high.
The room is on the live side. Phase 2 will consist of adding chair rail on the side walls with acoustic panaling on the lower haqlf and on the whole front wall. By tilting the MLs back more than normal it tamed the upper end that was reaching my ears. It is a fix that worked quite well and was suggested by ML.
The work bench you saw in the early pictures is only accessable from the utility room which was the original house access to the garage.
The french doors are where the original garage doors were so they face the front of the house.
I am glad that you have taken the interst and time to look at the pictures ans ask some questions.

Sopranos
It's a long story, but last night. (I think it was last night) My last night in Toronto, I met Big Pussy and Furio (sp) from The Sopranos.
Was excited. Yeah, just a little. Got my picture taken with them a couple of times. Next ones to onto my bio.
Those guys were great.
I go up to Pussy (Vinnie) and I say, "I thought you were dead!"
He says, "I look f**kin dead to you?".
I go up to Furio (Fredrico) and try some of what little Italian I can muster. He answers in perfect English. No accent. He moved to Patterson NJ when he was 15. They were cool guys, can't wait to show you guys the pictures.

It's not a Sony stupid, it's the Dream Vision (like you haven't seen me post that a thousand times! geez.)

Ron H: Very well done indeed.
The room colors look great and I love the hologen fixtures and sconces.
I saw the pronto in the arm rest of the couch. What was that gray wired romote looking thing close by?
Other questions include:
What is the switch (black wall plate) behind the door control?
I recognize all the speakers but the rears. What are those?
The Sony projector looks tiny! Is it quiet? do you have an 8 foot ceiling?
What year is the Standard Pauly? Are those single coil humbuckers?
Nice sunburst by the way. Oh, and what kind of amp (guitar) is that?
One more question,(sorry) Is the room very "live"? It looks like it might be.
Oh wait, one more question again.
What does the unfinished door lead to? Is that the work bench we saw in other pictures?
OK, let's start with those for now.
